Who is this ginnyfan and why can’t he keep this feature on schedule?
First up, Tex Driscoll (1889) made a career playing barflies. Usually just plain barflies, but he once played an Abilene barfly, That or bearded men. Bearded gunmen, bearded townsmen, bearded miners, bearded veterans. In Ginny’s THE OUTCASTS OF POKER FLAT (1937), he got to combine his two favorite roles, playing the bearded barfly. The photo is from THE OX BOW INCIDENT, where he simply played posse member.
We had a good time at the VWRS Facebook page a few months ago when I posted a 1960 TV listing for TIMOTHY’S QUEST (1936) and it listed Roscoe Karns (1891) as the star. It turns out that Roscoe Karns wasn’t even in TIMOTHY’S QUEST. He was, however, Austin Brown in SCANDAL STREET (1938), so he is a legit TIGer. Roscoe was popular as wisecrackers in 1930s films. He was in WOMAN OF THE YEAR, HIS GIRL FRIDAY, and was one of THREE MARRIED MEN-a film I’ll have something on later. The photo is a rare still of Roscoe on the live DuMont television show, ROCKY KING, DETECTIVE.

Producer Cliff Reid (1891) was in charge of three of Virginia’s 1939 loanout films at RKO, THE SPELLBINDER, FIXER DUGAN, and THE GREAT MAN VOTES. He seems to be best known for BRINGING UP BABY and THE INFORMER. He also produced several Mexican Spitfire movies. He’s seen here accepting an award for THE INFORMER from Joseph Polansky of the Association of Foreign Correspondents of Hollywood.
