1. TODAY IN GINNY!

It’s a light birthday group for September 14.

Actor John Halliday (1880) always sounded British even though he was born in Brooklyn NY. Everyone knows the one film he was in with Virginia, but he actually was in two. In 1935, he played the Duke oif Towers in PETER IBBETSON. Five years later he played Seth Lord, wayward father of Tracy and Dinah, in THE PHILADELPHIA STORY. He had been in the movies since 1912, working for years as Jack Halliday, and found a spot in talkies playing cultured, upper crust types. He only made one film after TPS, LYDIA with Merle Oberon the following year. Here he is with his two daughters in TPS.

Hal B. Wallis (1899) was a long time movie producer. He was the producer or executive producer of record on almost 400 films between 1931 (LITTLE CAESAR) and 1975 (ROOSTER COGBURN). One of those was ALL THIS, AND HEAVEN TOO (1940).  The photo is of Wallis (right) and a former Ginny director, Henry Hathaway, on the set of 1971’s SHOOT OUT.
